Bronze bushings belong to the group of solid bushings or solid bearings. They consist of a single material or alloy.

01. PTFE Cylindrical Bush, For Industrial Applications

PTFE cylindrical bush are available in metric sizes as cylindrical or flanged bushings. These cost-effective, self-lubricating and maintenance-free bushings are designed for dry operation. However, lubricants can enhance their performance. Despite the thin-walled design, PTFE cylindrical bush are wear resistant and can withstand moderate loads. Their compact design provides good heat dissipation and, as a result, relatively high sliding speeds.

PTFE composite bushings are available in metric and fractional straight bushings and metric flanged bushings. These bushings are self-lubricating and maintenance-free and have a long service life due to their low friction. Despite their compact design, they can withstand heavy radial loads and are suitable for relatively slow rotational or oscillating movements. They also have good dimensional stability and thermal conductivity.

PTFE composite bushings consist of a steel plate backing on which a 0.2 to 0.4 mm thick porous layer of tin/copper is sintered. In addition, the pores of the sintered layer are filled with a mixture of PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) and molybdenum disulfide additives through a rolling process. This additional 5 to 50 µm thick wear layer provides an optimal combination of the mechanical properties of the sintered tin/copper and the good sliding and lubricating properties of the PTFE mixture.

Break-in period

During a short break-in period, a small amount of PTFE material from the wear layer is transferred to the counter surface. After this transfer has occurred, the low friction and wear characteristics of these bushings are achieved.

02. POM cylindrical bush

POM composite cylindrical bush, POM composite bushings are available as cylindrical bushings in metric & inch sizes. The grooves in the sliding surface make these bushings suitable for applications requiring minimal maintenance under difficult operating conditions, such as in contaminated environments where lubrication cannot be provided continuously or frequently. Therefore, the grease reservoir should be filled prior to installation. Despite their compact design, POM composite bushings can withstand heavy radial loads and are less sensitive to misalignment. They are suitable for slow rotation or oscillation as well as linear motion.

POM composite bushings consist of a steel backing with a sintered 0.2 to 0.4 mm thick layer of tin/bronze. The main feature of these bushings is their relatively thickness (about 0.25 to 0.45 mm) covering layer of acetal resin (POM – polyoxyethylene) with additives. This cover layer has pockets for grease retention and is firmly attached to the sintered tin/bronze layer.

The thickness of the slide bearing layer makes these bushings less sensitive to misalignment and the edge loading associated with misalignment.

03. Wrapped bronze bushings

Wrapped bronze bushings are available as cylindrical bush or flanged bushings in metric sizes. They are wrapped in strips and calibrated. These bushings are an excellent solution for dirty environments where high levels of contamination make self-lubrication necessary. They are resistant to shock loads and low speed vibrations.

The diamond-shaped lubrication pockets on the sliding surfaces initially need to be filled with grease. A good quality lubricant reduces friction and wear and separates the bronze bushing from the shaft. To protect bushings and lubricants in highly contaminated environments, w recommend the use of seals.

04. Solid bronze bushings

Solid bronze bushings are available as cylindrical bush or flanged bushings in metric sizes. This robust bushing material is suitable for a wide range of applications. These bushings are suitable for radial and axial oscillating movements or for applications with low rotational speeds.

All surfaces of the solid bronze bushings are machined.

Solid bronze bushings can be lubricated with oil or grease, and the lubricant not only improves sliding performance, but also reduces wear and prevents corrosion. The bushings with an inner diameter d > 20 mm have an axial lubrication groove on their sliding surface.
