The PV value has a considerable influence on the life of the bearing. It is the product of the specific load P and the slip speed V and the PV is one of the most important design data, it is recommended that a PV value lower than the required specification leads to a duration of longer life.
Bearing load
In general, bearing pressure is obtained by dividing the maximum load exerted on the bearing by the bearing surface. The pressure sustaining area is defined as the projected load surface that contacts the shaft, projected in the direction of load for cylindrical and spherical bearings.
Bearing temperature
The life of a bearing is strongly influenced by the ambient temperature and the frictional heat generated by the oscillating and reciprocating movements.
For high temperature applications, the bearing PV value should be limited to a low value. The thermal resistance of plastic bearings is usually lower than that of metal bearings. In particular, thermoplastic resins have poor heat resistance. Moreover, their thermal expansion is relatively high. Therefore, in order to maintain the minimum required clearance, it is important to pay special attention to dimensional control when naming bearings made from these materials.
Operating ranges
The operation can be continuous or intermittent. Intermittent operations can be advantageous for bearings of the general type due to the intervals that allow the generated frictional heat to cool.
